Principal's Message

Dear Families of Ambuehl Elementary,

Welcome to another year at Ambuehl Elementary School! It is always exciting when the new year comes along, everything is fresh and clean. Mr. Jose and Ms. Aricelli, our site's custodians, have been working hard all summer to prepare for the student's arrival on Tuesday, August 24. The school looks great!

The staff will continue to focus upon providing each child with a strong instructional program. Integrating the State standards into the classroom program, students will pushed and challenged to delve further into the curriculum. Stepping into the classroom, you will notice a variety of student groupings; at times the students will work individually, but you will also see children paired up and in small groups of 3-4 working collaboratively and learning from each other. My focus this year will be to encourage all students to do their very best and accept the risks and challenges presented to them.  As a school leader, I feel it important to be seen and available to the community, staff, and, most importantly, the students.  I maintain an open door policy and can be found in the parking lot before and after school, touring the classrooms during instructional time, and on the playground during recess.

Technology-wise, our two computer labs are geared up and ready to go! Last December, all Ambuehl 5th grade students received a Chromebook for classroom instruction. We are excited to roll out the program into the 4th grade classrooms this year!

There are a few changes behind the scenes, as well. To help support the education of your child(ren), we will share an instructional coach with other four CUSD school sites. This coach is charged with working with the teachers during our ACE early release days and demonstrating lessons in the classroom. Each coach was, and still is, a highly effective and experienced teacher. We are also thrilled to have a counselor on site at least two days per week. Typically, the counselor will work students get through the usual trials and tribulations of childhood, but they will also be here should a true emergency arise.

On a personal note, I am excited to be back at Ambuehl for another school year. I love this school and the community. Having spent my childhood growing up in San Juan Capistrano, I truly enjoy being back in the City and seeing all the changes, as well as how some things haven't changed. Thank you for a wonderful first year at Ambuehl. . . let's make next year even better!

I look forward to a positive and productive 2017-18 school year and being part of the Ambuehl community.
